Becoming a Mason
To be one, ask one. Here is what happens after you do.
Who can join
Here is what Texas Masonic law asks of a candidate.
Age and character
A man of good moral character and sound mind, at least 18 years old on the day his petition is received by the lodge.
Belief
A firm belief in God, the immortality of the soul, and the divine authenticity of the Holy Scriptures, as Texas Masonic law requires. A man of another faith may take his obligation on the sacred book of his own faith.
Residency
Six months of residence in Texas, and six months in the lodge's area, before he petitions. He must also be known to at least three Masons in good standing besides the two who sign his petition.
Purpose
A sincere desire to improve yourself and serve others.
Free will
A request made of your own free will. No one is pressured or paid to join.
The steps
From your first question to your first degree.

Ask
Talk to a Mason you know, or send us a message. A member will get back to you.

Come meet with us
Join us for the meal before a stated meeting, served at 6:30 p.m. Meet local members who can answer your questions, get a look at the lodge room, and have a meal with us.

Petition
You complete a written petition, signed by at least two members of the lodge, and attach a copy of your birth certificate. The petition is presented at a stated meeting.

Investigation
A committee of members meets with you and learns about your background and reasons for joining.

Vote
Members of the lodge vote on your petition at a stated meeting.

The three degrees
If accepted, you receive the Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft, and Master Mason degrees, each with a member guiding you.
